McCallie
received the nickname “Blue Tornado” from a local sportswriter after
an undefeated 1921 season where the team outscored opponents 271-6.

McCallie won Mid-South Conference
championships in 1933, 1936, 1945, 1947, 1951, 1954, and 1956.
The Mid-South Conference consisted of schools in Tennessee and
Georgia.

McCallie joined
the TSSAA in 1971. McCallie was previously a member of the Mid-South
Conference.

McCallie won its
only TSSAA state championship in 2001, beating Brentwood Academy
17-16 on a game-winning, 22-yard field goal with 11 seconds left by
Trey Meyer (’04) to cap off an undefeated season.

McCallie’s
record is
35-40-3 all time against rival Baylor School. Since the
series resumed in 1971 after a 31-year hiatus, McCallie’s record is
23-20.

McCallie had 11
consecutive wins against rival Baylor School from 1998-08, the
longest win streak by either team in the series’ history.

McCallie has
amassed 72 winning seasons to just 25 losing seasons and eight .500
seasons.

McCallie has
played teams from 10 different states: Alabama, Florida, Georgia,
Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee,
Virginia, and West Virginia.

Five McCallie graduates have earned Mr.
Football honors: Keppy Baucom (2001), Ryan Moore (2002), Lee Hilt
(2004), Ayanga Okpokowuruk (2004), and B.J. Coleman (2005, 2006).

Five McCallie alumni have played in the
NFL: Fred Crawford (Class of 1930; Chicago Bears 1935), Tom Mullady
(Class of 1975; New York Giants 1979-1984), Ed Smith (Class of 1975;
Baltimore Colts 1980-1981), Ellis Gardner (Class of 1979; Kansas
City Chiefs 1983, Indianapolis Colts 1984), and Tawambi Settles
(Class of 1994; Jacksonville Jaguars 1998).

Famous McCallie alumni include media
mogul Ted Turner, former Senate Majority Leader Howard Baker,
evangelist Pat Robertson, and former South Carolina governor Carroll
Campbell, Jr. (served from 1987-1995).
